Biography:
David J. Crotta, Jr. is a New Haven native, who began trial practice in 1988, was formerly the managing partner of Mulvey, Oliver Gould & Crotta, and joined Esty and Buckmir in June 2025. Mr. Crotta has represented insurance companies and their insureds in civil trials involving a variety of issues arising from motor vehicle accidents, premises and products liability, and wrongful death claims. He has also represented commercial and private clients in civil actions and probate appeals.
Education:
Mr. Crotta holds a B.A., cum laude, in philosophy and history from Fairfield University and a J.D. from the University of Connecticut School of Law, where he was awarded the American Jurisprudence Award in Torts and the Milton W. Horwitz Memorial Prize in Torts.
Court Admissions:
Mr. Crotta is admitted to practice before Connecticut’s trial, appellate and supreme courts, and before the District Court for the district of Connecticut, the U.S. Second Circuit Court of Appeals and the U.S. Supreme Court.
Leadership, Memberships & Honors:
Mr. Crotta has served as an arbitrator in the New Haven Superior Court since 2001. In 2006, he was appointed by the Superior Court to the Civil Discovery Committee and in 2016 he was appointed by Chief Justice Rogers to the Civil Commission. Mr. Crotta has served on the CBA Professional Responsibility Committee since 1992; he was appointed by the Superior Court to the Grievance Panel for the judicial district of Milford/Ansonia for terms in 2006 and 2010. Mr. Crotta was a founding member (and past president) of the Dominican Foundation, a trustee from 2008 of Blessed Michael McGivney Parish in New Haven, is a member of the Board of Directors (and past president) of the Community Soup Kirchen and a member of the board of trustees (and Treasurer) of St. Martin de Porres Academy. He is a James D. Cooper Life-fellow of the Connecticut Bar Foundation, a recipient of the St. Joseph’s Medal of the Archdiocese of Hartford, and a 4th degree Knight of Columbus.
